Frequently Asked
Orthopedic surgeons and physical therapists often recommend gentle lymphatic drainage to help with swelling after knee, shoulder, ankle and other sports surgeries. Maria works only with your surgeon's clearance and alongside your PT plan, never on the incision.
Your surgeon sets the timing. Bring written clearance, your surgery date and any restrictions (brace, weight-bearing, range-of-motion limits) to your first visit.
Once a doctor or PT has ruled out a fracture or serious tear, gentle MLD can help move fluid from a swollen ankle, knee or wrist. For a fresh injury, get it checked first.
Sports massage works deep into the muscles. Lymphatic drainage is feather-light and moves fluid, so it's suited to swollen, healing tissue where deep pressure isn't safe. Many athletes use MLD first, then move to sports massage as they heal.
No. Heat isn't used on swollen or healing tissue, and every session is manual only: hands, no machines, cups or pumps.
No. MLD supports your recovery alongside physical therapy and your surgeon's plan. It doesn't replace rehab exercises or medical care.
60 minutes suits one limb or joint. 120 minutes allows full-body pathway work plus extended time on the injured area.
